THE CIVIL WAR (1642-49)

King Charles I, executed in 1649 after losing the war.
Which Side ?.

Bedfordshire, and therefore Blunham was solidly on the side of Parliament, and with Oliver Cromwell's home only a few miles up the road in Huntingdon, it is little wonder.

Oliver Cromwell, a local man -loved by some, hated by others even to this day.
The battle of Naseby took place just 40 miles north west of Blunham, where Prince Rupert's cavaliers were finally crushed and Sir Thomas Fairfax was the victor for Parliament. England was soon to experience a short period as a republic under Cromwell (from 1649-1660).
